About Form I-9
In 1986, the U.S. Federal Government passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act to address the issue of the growing number of unauthorized workers in this country. As a result of this Act, employers are required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification form, commonly known as the Form I-9, for all new hires. While employers have been diligent in attempting to comply by completing this Form I-9, difficulties in verifying information, the prevalence of fraudulent documentation, lax enforcement by the government, and a variety of other factors have limited the effectiveness of the 1986 Act.
Now, 20 years later, with the number of unauthorized workers soaring, a renewed push by the public, businesses and elected officials has once again placed employment eligibility at the political forefront. And, once again, employers are to bear the additional burden of ensuring each of their employees has a legal right to work in this country.
But Employment Eligibility Verification and compliance with Form I-9 requirements don’t have to hurt productivity and bog down your company’s Human Resources department. To help employers achieve compliance and limit exposure to potentially devastating liabilities, PeopleSystems has developed I-9 Plus—a new and innovative I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Storage service.
